All the small things: training yourself to be aware and grateful for the everyday little stuff puts you on the path of happiness

In the Buddhist tradition, libido is seen as the root of all suffering – when we’re dissatisfied with our lives its because we’re attached to the idea that something better is out there that we don’t have. One of the above reasons social media is bad for our mental health is because it feeds us a kind of spotlit reel of other people’s lives and accomplishments, which additions our desire and unhappiness. We also get too used to regular, leaving us blind to the good things right in front of us.

So you might look at gratitude as being the remedy to that smell of resentment. We can be grateful for the important things like the person or persons we adoration or our health, but it becomes even more difference to take joy in the small things in our world. This might be sitting down in a pleasant chair, moving in the ballpark or when you look a bird territory in the plot. If you drill your awareness regularly through musing you can be more attuned to these small-minded minutes of happiness.

To genuinely kick it up a notch and get the happy liquors flowing, you can practice wary grateful for the normal, daily, prosaic substance we typically don’t notice. Thich Nhat Hanh shows this with a toothache – if you’ve ever had one you know how pain it is and you’re aware of it all the time. You’d yield anything just to be going to normal again, that feeling of not having a toothache.

Once you go to the dentist and get wise sorted out the succour is incredible and ordinary feels stunning – in mindfulness we call is of the view that our non-toothache, the gratification and grateful for simply being alive. We can feel this for our inbreath and outbreath, you can enjoy your posture, you can enjoy the sentiments of your heart overpowering. When you get into the practice of enjoying the small things and the normal things, that’s walking the path of happiness. There is no path to pleasure, prosperity is the path.
